    Position Description

    Building managers are the jack-of-all-trades for the Union & Gardner Commons building and handle many different situations. Every day there will be the usual procedure but also a variety of different problems to solve or tasks to undertake. Building managers need to have excellent time management, be efficient and productive workers, and have the ability to multitask.

    General Manager Responsibilities Include:

    • Security of the building and its employees, visitors, & students. Working with the security cameras and walking through the building to ensure all is going well.
    • Opening or closing the building (depending on shift)
    • Event management and setups including assisting the setup crew with putting up equipment or furniture for an event as well as cleaning up after events.
    • Customer service including answering questions, assisting events with AV help or concerns
    • Responsible for maintaining the building safety including carrying out emergency procedures during fire alarms, earthquakes, etc.

    Dress Code:

    • Pants with no holes. Shorts are permitted in warmer months.
    • Look professional and clean
    • Union provided work shirts are required. Union provided sweaters are permitted in the colder months.

    Training Description

    Training will require a newly hired manager to clock in during different shifts and work with different managers.

    Managers handle different tasks that cannot always be foreseen and covered by the training. It is up to the manager on shift to problem solve and handle many different situations but the training will help prepare you.

    Hours of Work

    You will work a max of 20 hr. per week.

    Position Amenities

    • Textbooks paid by the Union from Inclusive access or physical copies.
    • Pay starts at $13.50 with with semi-annual raises.
    • Get paid every 7th and 22nd of each month.

    Position Requirements

    • This is a University of Utah student job; you are required to be a currently enrolled University of Utah student.
    • Able to lift speakers and equipment that weighs around 20-50 lbs
    • Must be an efficient and productive worker with an ability to react quickly under pressure

    Please read through the following details about Union Recreation Desk Responsiblities

    Shifts: Part-time (15-20 hours/week)
    Must be able to work nights and weekends

    Job Duties:
    Interacts as a customer service and operations specialist for the Union by providing guest services to students, staff, faculty, and guests. Duties include checking in customers to bowl, shoot pool, and/or game in the Gaming Center. It is imperative to provide the best customer service. Other duties include daily operations such as opening, mid, and closing procedures; handling cash reporting sheets; handling forms of payment such as cash, credit cards, campus orders, etc; working with large crowds during house rentals or busy weekend evenings; scheduling reservations, and working on pinsetters when necessary. Completes other duties as assigned and attends mandatory monthly staff meetings and annual Union staff training programs. As this individual is often the first contact for visitors both in person and on the telephone, they must be able to multitask efficiently, respond well to busy situations, while positively representing the University.

    This is a student position. It requires working with people in a helpful and friendly manner. You must be accurate with numbers and detail-oriented in handling financial transactions. It is also required of you to have the ability to work effectively in a team setting, under the pressure of deadlines, schedules, and varying traffic flow.

    Minimum Requirements:
    Commitment to excellent customer service, telephone etiquette/skills, organization skills, self-motivated, effective communication and listening skills, punctual, and reliable.

    Preferences:
    Previous cashing experience, previous experience in working at a bowling alley, flexibility in schedule, work-study, and/or current student at the University of Utah.

    Able to work 1 to 2 morning shifts M-F. (7:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.)

    Pay:
    Starts at $12.00/hour with semi-annual raises
